Fatigued to Fabulous

GOSHEN, Ind. - You ache all over and frequently feel exhausted. You may be one of the estimated 12 million Americans living with Fibromyalgia, a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain and tenderness.

Those diagnosed with fibromyalgia experience symptoms including pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points - places on the body where slight pressure causes pain.

"Although the intensity of symptoms may vary, fibromyalgia symptoms may never disappear completely," said Dr. Marcia Prenguber, ND, FABNO. "There are, however, treatments and self-care steps that can improve both fibromyalgia symptoms and a patient's overall health."

The Retreat Women's Health Center is hosting a 4-part series that will explore some of the facts and mysteries surrounding fibromyalgia, and provide information on these self-care steps to help patients manage their symptoms.

Each Monday in September, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., health care professionals will cover a number of strategies and supporting information to give patients skills and knowledge to gain more control of their fibromyalgia symptoms.

Topics will include a fibromyalgia overview, movement and exercise, nutrition and dietary habits, massage, relaxation and coping strategies, pain control, acupuncture, nutritional supplements and botanical support.

Cost for attending the 4-week series is $40 at the door for all 4 dates, $35 in advance for all for dates or $12 for an individual class. Call The Retreat Women's Health Center at 574-537-5000 to register.
